Ch. E. Wilson is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.
A London printer with a sideline in flipping rare old broadsheets, Ch. E. Wilson spent his days inking copper plates and his evenings sketching theater crowds in a cramped attic room he called “the echo chamber.” He liked to say the real show happened outside the playhouse, not inside. His late-century prints of Victorian street life crackle with the same nervous energy you’ll find in a Hogarth plate — except Wilson’s folk wear top hats while Hogarth’s wear rags. Hunt down H Beard Print Collection and you’ll see why Victorian London felt like one big, slightly chaotic carnival.
