Niklas Schlesitzer

German

Niklas Schlesitzer is a German Northern Renaissance artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Bavarian State Painting Collections.

Niklas Schlesitzer was the kind of painter who kept a pocketful of dried wildflowers and pinned them to the corners of his canvases while he worked. He liked how the brittle stems curled under the paint, leaving faint green ghosts behind. Look at “Still Life with Thistle and Stoneware” (1510) and you’ll see those same flowers pressed into the background—less decoration, more evidence of someone who touched everything he painted.
