Artist

Alexander

Alexander is a Patna School of Painting artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

This artist painted the people they met, not just the faces they saw. They spent years in China sketching women at their daily tasks, then shipped the drawings back to Europe where collectors paid well for "exotic" scenes. They didn’t paint gods or kings—just ordinary women holding fans, pouring tea, or walking with children. Look up *A Chinese lady with attendant* (1767-1816) and notice how the faces are calm, the fabrics detailed, the whole thing feels lived-in.
