Karel Frans Philippeau

Karel Frans Philippeau is an Impressionism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

A quiet watercolorist of the 1850s, Karel Frans Philippeau captured Alpine light in crisp, portable sheets. His Bay of Uri, Lake of Lucerne (1856) shows pine shadows sliding across water, the distant Rigi peak just catching the sunset. These unassuming views became instant travel souvenirs for Victorian tourists. Step inside the same bay he painted; look for the slight lift in sky color where the lake meets the mountains.
