Sakellariou Akakia

This Greek painter spent her days sketching the cranes and cranes of Galatsi’s docks, turning the industrial skyline into soft washes of color. She liked to paint the same spot at different times, so you’ll see the same cranes look blue in the morning and gold at dusk. Bring up her 1957 Landscape: Galatsi and you’ll notice how the foreground blur makes the cranes feel almost weightless.
