Artist

Pietersz Barbiers

Pietersz Barbiers is a Romanticism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Dutch printmaker of the late 1700s, Barbiers carved city scenes that feel like postcards before photography. His only dated work in the set—*H Beard Print Collection (after 11th May 1772)*—shows a canal-side view with boats and gabled houses, crisp lines and soft shading. If this kind of crisp, topographical print feels familiar, look next at the print titled *Amsterdam Bridge at Twilight*—it’s another slice of the same canal life, but lit by the last glow of day.
