Joseph Geldart
Joseph Geldart is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.
Joseph Geldart spent his days sketching in the corners of London coffeehouses, where he doodled on napkins and matchbooks when the ink ran out. He rarely signed his work, treating drawings as disposable notes rather than art. One of his surviving sheets, *Untitled* (1880s), shows a cat curled on a windowsill, its whiskers drawn so softly they almost tickle the paper. That quiet scene opens the door to his world—look for it in the British Museum’s online collection and scroll to “19th century drawings” to find him hiding in plain sight.
