MARGARITA AMARANTIDOU

MARGARITA AMARANTIDOU is an artist. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at Athens School of Fine Arts.

Margarita Amarantidou has a habit of making photos where the background hums louder than the subject. She shoots in places where light and shadow wrestle—abandoned courtyards in Nicosia, half-lit stairwells in Athens—then titles every print with just “Άτιτλο,” the Greek word for “untitled.” If you stand close enough to one of these black-and-white prints, you’ll notice the grain is so thick it looks like the paper itself is breathing. She belongs in Gallery Tiles because you can tap “Άτιτλο (2011)” and zoom in until the shadows start telling stories back to you.
