Artist

Celia Frances Bedford

Celia Frances Bedford is a Post-Impressionism artist. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Celia Frances Bedford sketched everywhere she went—cafés, parks, train stations—always with a tiny watercolor set in her pocket. She lived in Paris for decades, drawn to Montmartre’s winding alleys where artists and pigeons shared the same crumbs. Her drawings of swans in the park are spare, almost geometric, like she’d boiled the birds down to their quietest parts. Why she’s here: track down *Montmartre* (her watercolor, circa 1930) and you’ll see the neighborhood tilt just slightly, as if the houses are leaning in to listen.
