Jaques de Bourguignon

Jaques de Bourguignon is a Barbizon school artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Colecție particulară - Arad.

Jacques de Bourguignon kept a studio above a Parisian print shop where he sketched soldiers in between ink orders. He painted battle scenes with a dry, almost comic edge—horses rearing like startled shoppers, muskets aimed at nothing in particular. If you want to see his odd mix of grit and whimsy, look up *Scenă de luptă* (1650) in the Louvre’s Dutch and Flemish rooms, where it hides between bigger names.
