Stefano Pozzo

Stefano Pozzo is a Baroque artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Stefano Pozzo spent his life with a pencil in hand, sketching angels like they were regular people you’d spot in the piazza. His 1707 drawing shows one kneeling angel holding a chalice steady, line for line perfect, like he’s tracing the folds of a laundress’s skirt. See it up close and you’ll notice the angel’s fingers aren’t delicate—they’re workaday, rough around the edges. That’s the trick Pozzo pulls off: holy figures drawn with the grit of daily life. Find his Kneeling angel holding a chalice in the prints drawer; it’s the door to his quiet world of sacred ordinariness.
