R Westall

R Westall is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

R Westall made prints in the early 1800s that showed dramatic moments from British history. His 1827 engraving Cardinal Wolsey entering the Abbey of Leicester shows the fallen statesman in rich robes, kneeling before monks. These prints were part of a fashion for storytelling art that looked back at England’s past. Tap the print itself to see the way light and costume bring the scene to life.
