Artist

Auguste Ravier

Auguste Ravier is a Barbizon school artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Auguste Ravier painted soft, glowing watercolors of light on water and sky, mostly between the 1840s and 1890s. His brush kept returning to quiet twilight scenes—one titled Sunset on the Water shows pinks and blues bleeding across the surface. He stayed outside the big art movements of his time, letting the colors speak for themselves. Tap Sunset on the Water to see how a single sheet of paper can hold an entire evening.
