Artist

JC Mandy

JC Mandy is a British Romanticism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

JC Mandy only ever painted the houses other people ignored—crumbling bricks on Cockspur Street, a sagging shopfront before it got cleaned up. The watercolours look plain, almost careless, until you see how the light picks out a single broken pane or a crooked chimney and suddenly the whole street feels alive. Look up Old houses in Cockspur St, London (1824) and you’ll spot it: a sliver of sky wedged between two roofs, the kind of detail a photograph would miss.
