John Gardnor

John Gardnor is a Rococo painting artist. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

English watercolour artist of the late 1700s, John Gardnor painted sweeping rivers, castles and ruins along the Rhine. Two pieces in this set capture the crumbling brick walls of Bacharach church and the spires of Capelle Castle rising above the riverbank. His careful brush shows how light hits the stone and water in every fold of the hills. Want a closer look at the castle’s turret? Tap View of Capelle Castle on the Rhine next.
