Artist

William of Nottingham Wilde

William of Nottingham Wilde is an Impressionism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

William of Nottingham Wilde kept a tiny studio above a cobbler’s shop, where he painted on scraps of paper before breakfast. He loved the damp chill of the forest floor, so he dragged his easel into the woods to catch the light slanting through wet leaves. Look at *A wood on a sloping bank* from 1862—every mossy twig and puddle is there, painted on the spot in watercolor so thin it almost vanishes. His work belongs in Gallery Tiles because it’s the kind you can walk past in a gallery and suddenly feel like you’re standing ankle-deep in English mud.
