Gilbert Ledward

Gilbert Ledward is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Gilbert Ledward spent his life working in stone—literally. He carved war memorials by day and at night kept a tiny chisel in his coat pocket, trimming gravestones for neighbors. One day he snapped a photo of a bombed-out church steeple in London, its wooden cross still standing, and developed it in his kitchen sink. The picture looks ordinary until you notice the cross’s shadow: it’s shaped like a pointing finger. Why it’s here: find his photograph *Untitled (Photograph)* online and zoom in on that shadow—it’s the kind of small detail that turns a ruin into a story you can touch.
