Artist
W. McConnell
W. McConnell is an Impressionism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This printer spent his days inking posters in a cluttered Fleet Street shop, where the smell of hot lead and spilled coffee filled the air. He had a habit of slipping tiny, almost hidden jokes into the borders of his prints—look closely at the corner of a poster and you might spot a grinning dog wearing a hat. The easiest place to spot his work today is the George Speaight Punch & Judy Collection, where his ca. 1864 print hangs alongside decades of puppet theater history.
