Jan Philipp van Thielen

Jan Philipp van Thielen is a Baroque artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Brukenthal National Museum.

Jan Philipp van Thielen was a Flemish painter who spent his days surrounded by flowers—literally. He kept fresh bouquets in his studio just to study their fleeting beauty up close. His paintings feel like still lifes that won’t hold still: petals curl, dew glistens, and every lily and tulip seems to breathe. Why he belongs in Gallery Tiles? Try his *Ghirlandă de flori cu lalele* (1661), where a garland of tulips and lilies seems to float above a dark background, like a garden caught mid-dance.
