Artist

Francisco Sylverio

Francisco Sylverio is a Baroque artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Francisco Sylverio kept a pig in his Mexico City studio, mostly to eat the scraps from his engravings. He carved scenes so small they fit on a fingernail—buildings, saints, and street scenes you can still see under a jeweler’s loupe. If you’ve ever held a Mexican retablo, you’ve held a Sylverio: the same needle-thin lines, the same crowded corners of daily life.
