Yannis Mavidis

Yannis Mavidis is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Metropolitan Organisation of Museums of Visual Arts of Thessaloniki – MOMus.

Yannis Mavidis left Athens every summer to paint in the same half-ruined village house, where he kept a radio tuned to static just for the noise. He’d layer thick, sandy paint into landscapes that somehow looked both sun-bleached and damp, like the air had weight. His 1995 work *Τοπίο* (Greek for “landscape”) shows a single cypress against a pale sky—no people, no story, just a tree standing in the wrong light, as if the whole scene has been held underwater. If you’re curious, look up *Τοπίο* and stare at it long enough and you’ll swear the cypress starts to breathe.
