J & L Caswall Smith

J & L Caswall Smith made late-19th- and early-20th-century prints collected under the title H Beard Print Collection—small, sharp images meant for hand coloring. They sold these prints in sets that let buyers assemble their own illustrated albums. Their prints often featured everyday scenes: street corners, shopfronts, and public squares. One version from about 1896 shows a busy market with hand-colored accents on caps and aprons. Another from around 1900 captures a quiet corner with a lamp post and shadowed figures.
