Scherer

Scherer is a Romanticism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Historical & Ethnological Society of Greece.

Scherer was a Greek artist who painted the fighters of the 1821 revolution as they were—no heroic poses, just tired men in rough clothes sitting around a table. He didn’t care about glory; he wanted to show the war’s human side, the quiet moments between the noise. Look for his 1843 watercolor “Fighter of ’21,” tucked in the corner of the Athens gallery: a single figure, worn boots, a cup in hand.
