Artist

Robert Mannix

Robert Mannix is an American Impressionism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at National Gallery of Ireland.

Robert Mannix painted a single known oil in 1873: a full-length portrait of actor C.H. Granby costumed as Sir Peter Teazle from “The School for Scandal.” The sitter’s powdered wig and theatrical pose freeze a moment from London’s 1870s stage scene. Mannix’s brushwork keeps every detail sharp—lace at the cuffs, the sheen on the sword hilt—so the viewer can almost hear the playhouse murmur behind the canvas. Tap into the grand proscenium arch of Sir Peter’s painted gesture and step into the footlights.
