Robert Waldmüller

Robert Waldmüller is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Robert Waldmüller loved a good beard—real ones, drawn ones, any ones he could get his hands on. The 19th-century printmaker filled his shop near Vienna’s Graben with copper plates and razor-sharp lines, turning every chin into a tiny landscape of curls and stubble. If you’ve ever seen a beard in a museum and wondered who had the patience to sketch all those strands, this is your guy. Look up his H Beard Print Collection; each sheet is a time capsule of facial hair from clerks, poets, and possibly his own shaving mirror.
