Master of Pratovecchio

Master of Pratovecchio is an Early Renaissance artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Gemäldegalerie Berlin. Master of Pratovecchio was born in Florence.

This anonymous painter left behind a single, radiant altarpiece in Pratovecchio, Italy, where the Arno River bends around the village like a slow, green elbow. They stacked three archangels shoulder-to-shoulder, each with a face you’d trust in a storm—except the smallest one, little Tobias, who looks like he’s just learned how to tie his shoes. The halos hum because the gold leaf was beaten so thin you can almost see the wood underneath. Seek out the little angel’s sideways glance; that’s where the painter snuck in a quiet joke.
