From 1959, the institution operated with three distinct sections: Natural Sciences, History, and Art. Over time, the Natural Sciences section was separated to form the independent Complexul Muzeal de Științele Naturii Ion Borcea, leaving the Iulian Antonescu Complex focused on history and art.
