Bruges Master of 1473

Bruges Master of 1473 is a Northern Renaissance artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium.

This painter made a three-panel wooden altarpiece in 1473 for a couple named Jean de Witte and Maria Hoose. The work hangs with its hinges open most days; the middle shows a scene in a church while the side panels display the donors kneeling in red robes. Their faces are sharp and peaceful, with folds of fabric picked out in quiet greens and reds. Tap the triptych’s central panel to zoom in on the painted arches that frame the scene.
