Heinrich Hermann

Heinrich Hermann is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at South African National Gallery.

Heinrich Hermann spent his life in Cape Town, painting the city from the inside out—always a few steps up, a little closer to the clouds. He loved watercolor for its honesty: it shows the brushstrokes instead of hiding them, like a confession half-finished. His 1900-01 piece, Cape Town from the Top of Kloof Street, catches the city breathing between mountain and sea, its colors bleeding like a bruise that’s already healing.
