Artist

William Henry Pierson

William Henry Pierson is an Impressionism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

This British artist used watercolours to record punishments in 19th-century Persia. In 1864–74 he painted “Administering the Felek or bastinado in Persia,” showing a seated man’s bare soles being struck while his wrists are bound; the scene is lit by a single shaft of light falling across the tiled floor. The sheet is signed lower right “W. H. Pierson 1874.” See how Pierson balanced clinical detail with raw human drama in this single sheet.
