Artist

H. Carl Schiller

H. Carl Schiller is a Biedermeier artist. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

This British artist painted intimate watercolours of sitters in the 1850s, keeping their identities modest and the backgrounds plain. Two signed works survive: Henry Thornely from 1851 and Sarah Thornely done around the same year. Both share the same thin wash technique and dark oval frames that were fashionable in London portrait circles at the time. Want to linger with the Thornelys? Tap straight into Henry Thornely here.
