Brad Kayal’s prints look like they were made by a printer who moonlighted as a geometry teacher. He stacks precise rectangles and muted colors so methodically you half expect the page to start calculating your mortgage. One set, thirty-one screenprints from 2012, takes a single grid and nudges a single white square across it like a slow-motion game of solitaire. Tap any one of those Untitled prints—look for the one where the white square lands dead center—and you’ll see how a rigid system can still feel alive.
