Master of San Ildefonso

Master of San Ildefonso is an Early Renaissance artist. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at Statens Museum for Kunst.

This artist made small religious paintings in the 1400s, mostly scenes of saints and holy families. Their *Adoration of the Christ Child* shows baby Jesus on Mary’s lap with shepherds gathered around, while *Saints Paul and James the Great* pairs two apostles against a brocade background. Their style fits the late Gothic era—flat gold leaf, fine drapery, and lots of tiny details. Tap *Adoration of the Christ Child* next to zoom in on the gold halos and the way the light catches the fabric folds.
