Iosif Brandt

Iosif Brandt is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at National Museum of Art of Romania.

Iosif Brandt kept a loaded dueling pistol on his desk—not for threats, but because he’d once dueled over a painting. The man had a habit of winning them, too. A Pole who settled in Munich, he turned battlefield chaos into a kind of orderly theater, every rearing horse and flintlock fuse frozen in mid-air drama. His print *Tătari fugăriți de polonezi* shows exactly that scene: Tatar horsemen bolting from Polish cavalry, the dust so thick you can taste the gunpowder.
