Kinchodo Sekiga

Kinchodo Sekiga is a Romanticism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Kinchodo Sekiga spent his life carving images into cherry blocks in a tiny Edo alley, his hands stained purple from ink and plum wine. He never signed his prints, calling them “just the night’s work” — but collectors later noticed how his dragon scales looked like wet river stones under moonlight. Look up his *Untitled* (1780–1790) in Gallery Tiles; the dragon curls so softly it feels alive, ready to slip off the paper into your room.
