Artist
Thomas Skaife
Thomas Skaife is an Impressionism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.
Thomas Skaife carried his camera like a spy kit, popping up at rallies to catch the electricity in the air. In 1851 he printed Louis Kossuth’s face on a sheet of paper the size of a postcard and sold it for a penny, turning the Hungarian governor’s exile into a portable icon. That print still shows up in flea markets; the real trick is seeing how it kicked off the news-image trade.
