Romanian painter Ilie Ciortea made large official scenes in the late 1970s, when public art often showed leaders meeting workers. One of them is “Amiază în câmpia ilfoveană,” a print showing President Ceaușescu and his wife surrounded by sunflowers and citizens. It was ordered by the Ilfov Party Committee as a birthday gift in January 1978. See the print up close to spot the tiny artist signature “Ilie Ciortea ’78” tucked in the lower right corner.
