This 1886 Romanian icon shows Archangels Michael and Gabriel dressed as celestial soldiers and priests. Michael wears a gray knight’s tunic with red cloak, while Gabriel is robed in red and white with a lily. Both hold a mirrored cross that symbolizes divine law over earth, set against a pale dawn-blue sky. The artist, Ilie Poienaru from Laz in Sebes Valley, signed the work in old Romanian script and dated it with the final digit flipped. Tap “Iisus Hristos Biruiește!” to see the inscription up close.
