Shrimpers Returning, Etaples

Thomas RI Austen-Brown is an Impressionism artist. 3 works are cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Thomas RI Austen-Brown made quiet, luminous watercolors of European harbors and coastlines in the early 1900s. He painted *Grasse* in 1923 and *The Church and Harbour at Veere* in 1922, both soft washes of sky and water that catch a moment before the light shifts. His 1917 scene *Shrimpers Returning, Etaples* shows laborers at day’s end, their figures small against the gray-green sea. Hop aboard his watercolor of the Dutch harbor at Veere to drift into his gentle, salt-kissed world.
