Artist

Archdeacon John Fisher

Archdeacon John Fisher is a Romanticism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

This British artist filled sketchbooks with quiet pencil drawings of parish life around 1815–1830. One sheet shows the west front of Downton Church rising above lychgates and yews, its buttresses catching low light. The line shivers just enough to suggest wind in the trees and the slow wear of stone. These sheets were kept in portfolios, not shown in galleries, so the view still feels like a private glimpse. Flip to the next tile to stand inside the same churchyard via another sheet.
