Artist

Kilian

Kilian is a Baroque artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Kilian sketched like a reporter on deadline, scratching quick portraits of Ottoman sultans and the people around them. He worked in a print shop where whole cities became paper, and he turned the drama of thrones and turbans into something you could hold in your hand. If you’ve ever seen a print that feels like a snapshot—one eye just a little too bright, a sleeve catching the light—then you’ve felt his hand. Look up “Turkish sultans, sultanas and other historical figures” (around 1630) and you’ll spot the guy who made history look like gossip.
