Aurica Pânzaru

Aurica Pânzaru is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at National Museum of Romanian History.

Aurica Pânzaru didn’t set out to be an artist—she was a high school math and physics teacher in Dorohoi who kept brushes in her desk. In 1978 she painted Nicolae Ceaușescu’s portrait on cardboard and signed it over to him, a strange footnote in Cold War Romania. Look up the print titled “Pablou, ulei pe carton” and you’ll see a dictator reduced to polite oils, the grim joke of an ordinary teacher slipping a framed portrait to power.
