Whitlock
Whitlock is an artist. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This photographer roamed the streets at night, hunting for drama the rest of the city missed. He caught actors off-stage in their costumes, still lit by gaslight, and dragged his heavy camera through London’s fog to capture the glow of a single shop window. In his 1900-1915 shot of Trafalgar Square’s lions, the statues look alive under the gas lamps. Tap “Photograph, 1900-1915” to see how he turned soot into silver.
