Artist

Ramón Cortés

Spanish, b. 1900

Ramón Cortés is a Spanish artist. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at Museo del Prado. Ramón Cortés was born in Madrid.

Ramón Cortés kept a tiny paintbrush in his vest pocket and used it to touch up the café napkins where he sketched the Madrid street life he saw every afternoon. He liked shadows under tram awnings and the way a fruit seller’s orange crates cast stripes on the pavement. Look for his 1851 oil “Plaza de la Cebada at Noon” where a single white horse stands still in a blur of buyers—proof that a quiet moment can hold more noise than the crowd.
