T. Pleșa spent years photographing wooden churches in the Mehedinți hills, sleeping in village kitchens and walking dirt roads with a tripod over one shoulder. You can almost smell the resin in his 1986 shot of Brebina’s church, its shingles bleached silver by sun and showers.
