Pauline Augustin

Pauline Augustin is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Nationalmuseum.

Pauline Augustin kept a studio in an old Parisian apartment where the light came in sideways through yellowed shutters, the kind that makes faces look like they’re lit from within. She painted women with calm faces and quiet hands, often seated, as if they’d just set something down or were about to pick it up. A friend once told me her real trick was making stillness feel active, like the pause between two breaths. Look up *Unknown Woman* (she never gave it a title) to see what that looks like in oil on canvas.
