Savu Poienaru

Savu Poienaru is a Romanticism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at National Museum of Transylvanian History.

A Transylvanian draftsman active in the early 1800s, Savu Poienaru filled sheets with chalk and ink studies of sacred figures. His 1806 drawing “Fecioara cu Pruncul (Împărătiță)” shows the Virgin crowned and holding the Christ Child, every fold of her robes and halo rendered in fine, parallel hatching. Look for the way the Child’s tiny fingers curl around Mary’s thumb—an intimate touch that lifts the icon from doctrine into everyday tenderness. Tap into the same sheet to compare line weight and texture.
