Johan Stålbom

Johan Stålbom is a Rococo painting artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Nationalmuseum.

Dutch Golden Age portraits were stiff, symmetrical, and all business, but Johan Stålbom painted lively Swedish faces in the 1700s. One of his brushes captured Christina Magdalena Stenbock, gift Creutz in 1754: a woman in a silvery-gray dress, lace collar catching the light, looking straight at you with a quiet “yes, I’m here.” His sitters are crisply lit, fabrics softly brushed, and every ruffle or ribbon feels fresh. Tap her collar to feel the 1700s Swedish stately charm.
