Artist

Philip Schey

Philip Schey is a Dutch Golden Age artist. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at Rijksmuseum.

Philip Schey painted playful scenes on harpsichord lids, turning the inside of the instrument into a tiny party. In 1626 he covered one lid with a riverbank gathering of musicians and guests in feathered hats. Another lid shows a similar feast—crowded boats, wine bottles, and a sky full of swans. Both works crowd the frame with vivid details you can follow like a game: spot the lute player, the spilled punch, the dog chasing a hat. Look closer at *Deksel van een klavecimbel* to count the cups on the table.
