Laurence-Augustine Jubé Héquet

Laurence-Augustine Jubé Héquet is a Realism painter. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Laurence-Augustine Jubé Héquet had a habit of painting the people around him—not the famous ones, but the ones who slipped into the room unnoticed. She once set up her easel in a Parisian drawing room and captured Ingres as a young man, years before he became the stiff-necked portraitist everyone remembers. Her brush followed the light on his face, not the rules of the salon. If you stand close to *Ingres (1780–1867) as a Young Man*, you can see the loose strokes that make the future artist look alive, not posed.
